Oak Firewood

When people think of firewood, oak is usually the first wood to come to mind. Oak wood is the firewood industry standard for good reason. It is a very slow growing, dense wood that puts out a tremendous amount of heat and leaves very little ash. Many oak species are found throughout California’s Central Valley and Western Sierra Foothills. The wood is reddish brown or tan in color with thin bark that ranges in color from black to brown and is crumbly in texture. Oak is resistant to rot and insects and retains is burning characteristics even after many years of storage. Approx. heat per cord = 28.2
