Almond Firewood

Almond is one of the best woods for home heating. Many retailers and manufacturers of wood stoves and inserts recommend almond as the preferred firewood. It is certainly the second choice if oak is too expensive or unavailable. Almond is very popular in California as it is sold in almost all of the northern and central portions of the state. It is a reddish-brown wood that turns dark brown when exposed to the weather. The bark is dark brown and crumbly in texture. It is a very dense wood and is very heavy even when completely seasoned. The fact that it is so dense is the main reason for its high BTU content. The wood is resistant to rot and insects and retains its burning qualities even after many years of storage.
